Hey all! This is just a quick message to encourage anyone who has the opportunity to see the movie Low Down to do so. It’s a film I’ve seen a few times and though some might call it a heavy picture, it’s incredibly moving and it makes you think. That’s it’s job and it certainly does it.
I hope you all get a chance to see this and enjoy it as much as I do.
We lost someone today. I was reading on him and came across this on his Wikipedia page. Just some nice things to think about…
Haden did not orient himself with a specific religious orientation, but he is very interested in spirituality, especially in association with music. His teaching method relies heavily on spirituality. He believes that in order to establish an individual musical voice, one must first establish a spiritual posture. This physical and mental position will allow the individual to find their own unique musical voice and bring it to their instrument. He also encourages his students to enter a meditative state when they play, one in which they focus solely on the present moment: “there’s no yesterday or tomorrow, there’s only right now,” he claims. In order to find this state, and ultimately to find one’s spiritual self, Haden urges that one must have humility and respect for beauty; they must be thankful for the ability to make music, and to give back to the world with the music they create. He claims that music taught him this process of exchange, so he teaches it to his students in return. Music, Haden believes, also teaches incredibly valuable lessons about life: "I learned at a very young age that music teaches you about life. When you're in the midst of improvisation, there is no yesterday and no tomorrow — there is just the moment that you are in. In that beautiful moment, you experience your true insignificance to the rest of the universe. It is then, and only then, that you can experience your true significance."
Music can teach us a lot about life. Let's always be thankful for it.
Just a quick word on things.
I'm not a fan of Twitter. I don't need to get into it, but every now and again, I suppose I do feel the need to tell the whole world what I feel, or show anyone who'll look what I like or find interesting. I guess, this is my little corner to do so.
I am very happy that Keith Olbermann is back on the air. There, that's all really. There is no real reason that I need to share that with everyone, but this morning, watching yesterday's episode, and that of a few other television programs I enjoy, I was moved to...utter goose bumps...a few times. The feeling I get watching the "I Have A Dream" speech is something so innate and visceral that it really makes me stop and enjoy the moment I'm in. That particular moment. Just because I can feel such a beautiful thing.
75% of the members of Dot Hacker are really into one of more sports and 100% of us are really into intelligence and the world moving in a positive, communicative direction. When the Dots were first forming, we used to talk a lot about the privious night's 'Countdown' at practice.
Here is someone marrying the two of those things.
Welcome back Keith.
I very warm welcome to Dot Hacker.org!
As this is a band with a highly active pause button, this site should be a fun place to maintain some semblance of constant forward motion.
See you soon…
Before i properly introduce and welcome you to our brand new website, an apology is in order. Sorry it took us so damn long to get this going! No excuses...Well- there are a few but I'll spare you all. From now on, this will be ground zero for all things DH. As soon as there's something new to share, this is where you'll find it. As some of you may know, Dot Hacker is a band that exists in a world of complicated scheduling gymnastics and while sometimes it's challenging for the 4 of us to physically get in the same room together, now we have a place where we can hang out with all of you. This year has been an exciting one for us so far- we've been able to spend a lot of time together working on new songs as well as trying to remember how to play old ones. We also just recently completed our first tour ever alongside our good friends, ZAVALAZ and finally we now have our very own website- how righteous!...Please enjoy the site and check back regularly as we'll try to be diligent about posting new info, pics, videos and other fun stuff. Very soon the 'You Say' feature will be active and you'll be able to speak directly to us and other DH fans- I'm looking forward to that part the most. Guess that's all for now but i'll be back!
